Many spectators were uncertain of the fate with YSL when Hedi Sliman decided to remove the founders first name Yves from the label. Hedi also discounted any merchandise bearing the YSL logo. Gucci was also looked upon as brand in trouble without a clear roadmap ahead. Today, Saint Laurent and Gucci are the hottest names in luxury! This type of disruption is what fashion houses’ need to move forward and remain relevant.
I BELIEVE BRIONI IS ABOUT TO BE THE HOTTEST MENSWEAR BRAND(in the traditional sartorial space i.e. Ermenegildo Zegna, Canali, Salvatore Ferragamo, Isaia, etc.)
The luxury retail business has always been much a part of Texas as the oil business. Neiman Marcus, an American luxury department store founded in 1907 in Dallas, TX, introduced luxury fashion to Texans. Neiman Marcus sold quality clothing that was not commonly found in Texas and allowed Oil-rich Texans to flaunt their wealth in a more sophisticated fashion.
Presently, Texas remains an important market for luxury retail with no signs of slowing down. Within the past five years, Texas has witnessed an influx of new luxury store openings, renovations, and new shopping centers. Dallas and Houston are the biggest luxury markets in Texas.
Highland Park Village
In 1907, around the same time Neiman Marcus was founded, the town Highland Park Village was established. Highland Park Village is America’s first shopping center and the prototype for shopping centers across the USA. Commonly referred to the Beverly Hills of Texas, Highland Park Village has become one of the most beautiful communities in the nation.
Mega French fashion house Christian Dior, debuted the second Dior Beauty Boutique in the USA at Highland Park Village. The Dior Beauty Boutique is approx. 600 square-foot and is located just a few doors down from the full-line Dior boutique, which opened just two years ago. Dior Beauty includes both product and the famous Dior Cabine, a spa room lead by a certified beauty specialist by the Dior Institut.

Another major French Fashion House, Hermes of Paris, recently renovated and expanded its Highland Park location. Hermes introduce a new second level, giving the new boutique a much larger space to showcase all 16 product categories including the growing furniture and home accessories collection.

Other major fashion brands to open at Highland Park Village within two years, include Celine, Saint Laurent, Brunello Cucinelli and James Perse. With a great retail mix, I view Highland Park Village as a blend between Melrose and Rodeo Drive, but without the LA craziness.
River Oaks District
The Houston Galleria has been a long time destination for luxury shopping and is the nation’s fourth largest shopping mall, but now there is a new threat to The Galleria. After two years of development, Houston’s highly anticipated shopping center River Oaks District is finally opened. Located in the heart of Houston and less than two miles away from The Galleria. Many luxury brands had closed their Galleria location to open at River Oaks, for other luxury brands this their first boutique in Houston. Only about 80% of the shopping center is open, many new attractions to come.

My excitement for this new shopping started when I first broke news about River Oaks one year ago. The River Oaks District is a collection of luxury retail, dining, and entertainment in an outdoor environment.
After a year-long renovation, the new Louis Vuitton store is now open. Designed by architect Peter Marino, notably known for creating the majority of luxury retail.
The newly imagined space strikes a head-turning presence, with wending stainless-steel and lacquered ivory “ribbons” outside of its first floor, an all-glass layer on its second, and a third floor tiled in sheer fabric panels, patterned in a brick-like formation and placed at random—a patchwork reminiscent of the swirling ’70s prints that were seen coming down the runway at the Spring/Summer 2015 ready-to-wear show.
“We’ve been a landmark destination in the neighborhood for more than 30 years. It’s important that this new store represents innovation, craftsmanship, superior quality and heritage.” – Anthony Ledru, President & CEO of Louis Vuitton Americas
Customization is king in luxury! The ground floor is occupied with an Haute Maroquinerie salon, one of only a handful of leather shops of its kind in the U.S. Here, monogramming and hard-sided luggage painting are on offer. On the second floor lies the men’s universe, complete with bespoke shoes and belts.
I have to say I was a bit disappointed about Louis Vuitton not sticking to the original plans for Rodeo Drive. When parent company LVMH purchased the Luxury Italian House Bvlgari, the company moved the Bvlgari store up the street into a newly designed store. The old Bvlgari store was right next door to Louis Vuitton.
Louis Vuitton was then going to occupy that entire block on Rodeo Drive, a dedicated Men’s and Women’s Store. It would have been the largest Louis Vuitton store combined. Making it the ultimate shopping destination for world class travelers.
Below is a rendering of the original plans. The facade of the Men’s store would have appeared to be a shade of brown. The Women’s store would have been the same as now.
Macy’s Flagship location, Macy’s Herald Square was built in 1902 and is located in Manhattan, New York. The Mega Department store has started a $400 million renovation in 2012, estimated completion date 2015. Macy’s has brought on board some of the top luxury brands such as Longchamp, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Burberry plus others to sign a shop in shop lease.
